JOINING SWEF

Prior to becoming a full member of an Strange Worlds game, each player must complete Training. During training, the participants will learn about game communication and interaction. Although it appears a time consuming process, this type of training does promote a positive and enjoyable gaming experience.

What is needed to play the games? Games are played in chatrooms, therefore, an IRC program (mIRC, Pirch, etc.) is required. Most are free for download from the internet. Feel free to sign up once you have an IRC program.

Trainees must complete training before joining an active team. Training is accomplished in the following steps.

1. Signing Up - each player needs to sign-up and attend training. Training last from approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Training may take more than one session. The trainer will determine this. SWEF Training Schedule is listed below for you to see which day and time best suits you (times are negotiable, so speak with your trainer if the times listed are not convenient). Once a player determines which day is best for their training, they need to sign up using the form at the bottom of this page (if the form does not work for you, please anwser the questions it asks in an email and send the answers to fm@swef.net )

2. Review - Reviewing the SWEF Training Manual is perhaps the most important step in the entire training process. Without a working knowledge of communication conventions and general game operations, a player will have a more difficult time during training. Players must review and become familiar with the SWEF Manual, which will be emailed to them by their assigned trainer.

3. Attend - Having completed the above steps, the player attends live training. During training, the players will go over the Strange Worlds communication conventions, until the trainer feels they have a good understanding of them. The remainder of the time will consist of other aspects of playing in SWEF. A live training simulation will be held either at the end of the training or in a second training session. The training simulation is designed to help players understand and get a feel for live on-line chatroom gaming firsthand.

Once a player "graduates" from training, they will select a weekly game. Training takes place in a chat room of the trainer's choosing. All chat rooms can be found on the chat.swef.net chat server. Server connection information will be emailed to players, by their assigned trainer. It is wise to connect to the chat server, before your training date, to be sure connection is available. If there is a connection problem, please contact your trainer immediately.

Training Enrollment

Please make sure you have read over the SWEF Manual (which will be emailed to you)before attending training. This will make the experience more enjoyable for both you and the trainer.
